could my battery be causing this?
could my battery be causing this?
i've posted this problem ALOT, but never found out what the problem was..
for about a yr now, my car doesnt want to start when its been sitting overnight, or for a few hrs, it will take 2 tries to start. or if i go on off on off on off with they key, then it will start, the battery in my car does not look like it belongs, it looks like a small battery etc, do you think that the battery might be the cause of it or probably not?
any help is apprecated
thanks

Sometimes my '99 will get "stubborn" & turn over, but not light.
I'll back off, and try again - it will usually fire right up.
In the old days, I would have said that the carb was flooded - dunno if it is possible for a EFI system to do that.
?

Re: could my battery be causing this?
Is it cranking slow or clicking...these are battery or dirty battery connection issues. If it's cranking normally but just no starting, it's likely a fuel pressure issue (check with a fuel pressure gauge).

sounds to me like your fuel pump is starting to go out. But then again if you have the wrong battery in your car that could cause it to not start also. I say just replace the battery if you are in doubt as to wether or not its the correct battery and go on from there.
Re: could my battery be causing this?
well its been doing this for a a yr+, so i was kind of thinking it was not the fuel pump bc if it was, it would have been out by now, do you agree or no?
Re: could my battery be causing this?
as it been getting worse and worse over the past year or did it just all of a sudden start doing it? I had the same problem that you are describing. Fuel pump was taking a **** on me took forever for it to build up enought pressure for the engine to run properly. Yes it could be other things but I would start with stuff that is more comming than immediatly diving in and saying its your ignition switch or something more complex to diagnose and repair. Do a fuel pressure test and see what that gets you.
