Cooling problem??
Well I got my new water pump on and also put a new belt tensinor (sp). Filled up all the fluids and made sure they are full. Now when I drive, my car is around 195 range then jumps to 210, stays for awhile unless I give it some gas and goes to about 230-240 then drops back down to 210. If I get on the freeway and take it up to about 70-80, it cools down a bit, but then I hit stoplights and it starts doing the 210-240 range again. Did I miss something or do I have another problem?? Not enough coolant, thermostat??? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Re: Cooling problem??
sounds like there might be a small air pocket in ur cooling system, they can be a pain in the ***.
with the car cool, take the rad. cap off and make sure that its full (as well as the overflow tank),start the car up and let it run. after a several minutes and the car reaches operating temp (about 195) the thermostat should open up (and the upper rad. hose will get pretty warm to the touch). watch w/ the cap off and make sure it stays full the whole time.
if that doesnt work, wait till the car is cool again and drain the cooling system, take the thermostat housing off and dump coolant right into the motor, making sure its full. then put the thermo. housing back on and fill the radiator. start it up and let it warm up w/ the cap off again making sure its full. then drive it and see if its ok.
when i changed engines the last time in my car,i had to do the last part i just told u twice before all the air was out of the system.
hope that helps

Re: Cooling problem??
my 97 z28 has bleed valves to remove air from the system. don't know about the V6's though. I had a similar problem after replacing the thermostat until a friend told me to bleed the system.

Re: Cooling problem??
hmm V6's shouldn't produce that much power.
Anyways, even though these Maros' run perty hot, they should run 10-15 degrees cooler then that, so change your oil and your collant, run the good stuff. That should help.
