Coolant leak - will this work?

I have a coolant leak that is coming between the firewall and the black plastic box that the two heater hoses go into (Im not sure what the correct name for this is). Coolant is dripping onto my y-pipe. I opened up the glove compartment and the heater core looks fine. If its not the heater core, what else is in there that could be leaking? The metal around the plastic box is rusted - could this affect anything.

As a temporary fix, could I connect the two heater hoses together to bypass that area?

The box on the firewall houses the air conditioning evaporator, and the heater core. Are you sure it's coolant, and isn't just condensation from the cold AC lines that you are seeing? Or possibly the drain in the box is plugged up.

Im absolutely sure its coolant. The sweet smell when it burns on the ypipe when I park the car in the garage is unmistakeable. Can you tell me where there drain in the box is located exactly?

if there is coolant coming from there, make sure the hoses to the heater core are tight, if they are, it needs a heater core, no ifs ands or buts
