I did a search and found a result here, but I wanted to get some other thoughts.




Here is what is going on: a small part of the fabric on the rear window is peeling away. I've heard that if this gets bad enough, the window will fall through

I just want to simply glue this back on. I've heard black RTV will work, but will a silicone glue work too (FYI I don't know what "RTV" actually is). I've heard I need a glue that is strong, but flexible (sorry I don't think JB Weld is going to cut it here) because of the top flexing when it is down.

 

RTV stands for Room Temperature Vulcanizing. It's a silicone based compond that under goes a chemical change at room temperature. Goes from a gooey liquid to a semi-soft solid.
You can use other types of glue as long as they don't dry rock hard.

 

Hope you haven't put anything on it yet! I had the same problem -completely across the window bottom - inside AND outside. Use 3M Window-Weld 08609. It came highly recommended from another forum - and it worked like a charm. It is a urethane specifically made for glass applicatons and has a strong bond. Don't mess around with other stuff.

Probably at an auto body supply store, an auto glass company, maybe some parts stores, etc. is where I would think to look.

 

I got mine from my father-in-law's body shop. But you can get a tube on ebay - search it on the net - or maybe an auto glass shop would sell you a tube. It is a cartridge for a calking gun - about $15 (give or take). Search it on ebay and you'll know what you are dealing with.
Give it at least 24 hours or more with the top partially open to release the tension when you bond it. Good luck!
