Convertible?

Always wondered what kind of speed you would lose by having a convertible Z28. My one friend explained that you lose speed because of the convertible. Why is that?

It would most likely be less aerodynamic. Top speed is usually limited by aerodymanic drag, which increases with the cube of the velocity.

On the other hand, it never hurt this car, which was capable of running low 8's at over 165 MPH. Did require an extended spoiler in the rear to keep the downforce high.

The convertible top does not have as good an aerodynamic shape, as the hatch back. Flow off the back of the car. This is why the C5R Corvettes that raced at Le Mans were hatch backs and not ZO6's(hard tops).
Most convertibles are heavier then their counterparts also.

I'm supprised your able to keep the top on at 165. I've seen some targa tops and T-tops come off at those speeds. They were sustained 165+ speeds though.

So whats everyones gross weight on the sticker located inside the drivers door? My vert says 4290 lbs. Someone told me that this is with full fluids and 4 passengers of some average weight.

We'll delete the link until we can check further.

Hope I didn't confuse anyone. The total weight of the car doesn't have much effect on top speed. Just on how long it takes you to get there.
For instance, because of the low friction of the surface at the Salt Flats, a slightly heavier car can be better.

With regard to the statement that Firefox lists the f-body.org site as an attack site, this is an explanation from the website:
January 21, 2009
What a Load of Crap

Like many sites, we got hit with a SQL Injection Attack some time ago. I cleaned things up immediately. But whoever it is that keeps track of that stuff, I think it's Google, hasn't done their job of updating sites that are clean. We've been clean since 2-3 days after the hit, yet Firefox STILL reports us as a suspected attack site. What a load of crap, so it's not like anybody will see this.
I had no trouble reaching the site from a system that includes significant safeguards.
