Cleaning Mass Air Flow Sensor...?

I saw a spray at Autozone today thats suppose to be used for cleaning the MAF. Anyone ever use it and see results? Does the MAF really get that dirty as to cause a decrease in performance?

Re: Cleaning Mass Air Flow Sensor...?

did QD make it? someone recently said it smells a lot like the QD Electric cleaner....prob not much difference - both will get the job done

Sprays, IMO, are the safest way to clean MAFs

MAFs often get contaminated by oil from an over-oiled K&N filter. As has been suggested, a spray (aerosol) electrical contact cleaner does the job.

or just in general from pollutants in the air that get past air filters - everyone should have to clean it at some point

Re: Cleaning Mass Air Flow Sensor...?

I've cleaned mine everytime I clean the throttle body.

Seems to make a bit of difference everytime.

I use electronic contact cleaner on the MAF and fuel injection cleaner (similar to carb cleaner) on the throttle body.

What do you do? Just give it a few quick sprays and thats it? No wiping or anything?

No wiping - DEFINETLY no wiping.

The electronics cleaner is a residue free and fast drying spray.

I take the MAF off of the car and put it gently down on the garage ground then spray away.

Do you spray pretty liberally?

Ya, kind of - I give it a direct shot of the cleaner for about a total of 10 seconds or so.

try spraying stuff as well - but, spray in the direction away from sensors (possible?) idk... wipe down the other side, just to be safe and not get any debris on the sensors that might cause harm/poor function/you to clean it again.

I think for the screen, maybe SeaFoam's Deep Creep - just dont get it on the sensors.

Re: Cleaning Mass Air Flow Sensor...?

I was thinking about dipping it in brake cleaner and not getting it on the actual sensor...
