Changing the fuel pump.....?

I keep seeing these fuel pumps that say they need modification to work in an LT1 gas tank. What kind of modification and what fuel pump is really worth it to put in this car? I dont want to do it more than once so maybe you guys can tell me where to spend my green. I dont want this fuel pump thing to bite me in the ***. Let me know what pump you used and how hard it was to install. Which did you use that sucked?

i went with a walbro 255, the mod i had to do was for the little filter that fit on the end. it had to be moded a little to fit. not hard at all. the hardest part was droping the gas tank to put the thing in. unless you cut a hole in your trunk, thats some thing i didnt want to do.

You shouldnt, as long as you are on level ground. There may be a bit of spillage going on, but not much. Always nice to have rags around sicne the carpet will be pulled out anyways. If my pump ever goes or I need a better one I'm planning on doing the trap door method. I don't feel like dropping my exhaust to get to it.

... and this is why so many pumps fail pre-maturely!!!
You MUST drain the tank and clean / rinse it out. The number once cause of pre-mature pump failure is sediment / rust in the tank. Most FLT1 cars have plenty of it due to their age.

It does not take much more effort to loosen one shock etc. to get the tank out. There is also the risk of causing a fire or nicking the lines / wires on top of the tank.

I pulled one(whole assembly)from a wrecked '95 with 50k miles. It's simple using the trap door method. It cost me $5.

Does your fuel pressure drop under WOT?
Does it hold stable pressure?
What symptoms do you have?

Is the kit a perfect swap or is there any modifications??

Does the kit come with everything you need to do the swap or do you have to buy extra such as a sealant or gasket/seal or something??

It comes with everything you need.
There are no mods required.

If I buy just the pump for $159 is it just a direct replacement?? If not what mods to do it??

If so do I get it from you or from a Canadian dealer??

If from you how much shipped to my door in North Eastern Ontario Canada??

I am going to get a new pump as my original has over 110K miles so I want to have a set up to replace on the shelf instead of scrambling. It will sit on the shelf next to my new OPti and water pump as they are Original too.

Thanks

the Racetronix kit is the easiest out there. You dont need to modify anything, the kit takes care of everything for you. I bought mine 2 years ago.

I put mine in thru the trunk. The trap door way is good for a race car. Honestly if my car were a street car I would have wanted to drop the tank and clean it out as already stated. I like the trap door because I can have access to my pump in 20 min if I really needed to between rounds. Never had to...

BTW, the best way to cut the hole is with an air hammer and make nice clean cuts and no sparks. I know guys who have cut them with a cutoff wheel and a die grinder but it makes a mess and is kind of dangerous if you hit and cut a fuel line. With an air hammer you really can't cut any deeper than the tip will allow. Generally this is 1/8" or less...

Racetronix ships from Toronto. You can order it through a local dealer such as Redline listed on our web page.
