Cat-Back Install?

Hey All,

I was looking to pick-up my Magnaflow cat-back tomorrow, however nobody is available to install it (well, anyone I deem capable)

I have done a lot of the work on my old LT1, but I have never installed a catback. Is it difficult? Is it doable with tools and Rhino ramps?

Please let me know any insight on this process. Thanks as always.

Re: Cat-Back Install?

the rhinos wont give you COMFOTABLE clearence, but it will work. The trickiest part is the over axle part, then positioning the muffler/tailpipes correctly. Other than that, dont crimp too much tubing if you're using U clamps. I reccomend using the expensive band clamps. They give a better seal and dont restrict your exhaust flow by preventing the crimping of the metal and also making UNinstallation LOTS easier.

no it really isnt too complicated. I'd give it a shot on your own. Then if thats not working out for ya, drive it open pipe to the muffler shop and enjoy the crazy sound.

Re: Cat-Back Install?

ya definately try it out. If you can do it, it'll save you over a hundred dollars, so its not worth it to throw in the towel when you can still drive the car minus exhaust... and its hella fun too...

Re: Cat-Back Install?

Just jack the car as high as you can , use jack stands, remove the right rear tire to give yourself some working room, find a friend to help ..although not necessary but makes it easier, take your time, pre-fit everything to make sure all the parts fit together before trying to install them and have fun. I installed mine with no help following the tips I gave you and it wasn't bad at all, the only thing I did was have my local muffler shop weld-up all connections!

Re: Cat-Back Install?

Cat-back install really is quite simple. i just jacked it up in the back and it took about a half hour to install and almost as long to get the tips just right. hardest part is getting off the old exhaust if you dont have the right tools. we just used a saw-zall. good luck.

I would give it a shot, it is a very simple and straight forward process. Nothing too complicated.

To echo everyone elses' comments.
Easy to do. I did it on stands, but it might even be better (fitment wise) on ramps as you'll know how well you've positioned the rear over the axle pipe before setting the car back down.
Getting old exhaust off darn near requires a sawzall. Buy rent or borrow one if you don't have one.

Here's my installation of the Magnaflow;

Good luck!
