Re: Camaro Cop Target?
A cop has pulled me over just to ask me what I had done to car saying that he has never heard a car like that. And with my cutout open it is pretty loud. It all depends on the cop, some are cool and some are A-HOLES!
Re: Camaro Cop Target?
besides the friendly stops...a police officer needs to see something wrong with your driving or vehicle to pull you over. its called "probably cause". If they pull you over and you ask what you did wrong and they say nothing then pull thier punk card and drive off.

That's "probable cause" and I would not suggest to anyone that they should pull their punk card and drive off...Unfortunately there a bad cops just like there are bad employees in any profession. Driving off is a good way to get hurt even if you did nothing wrong..I hope you were kidding. Been a cop for over 13 years and, although I'm not in patrol anymore I never viewed F-bodies as cop targets...I also never had time to mess with a lot of traffic stuff. We are a little too busy with real crime...Besides I know I speed, why would I stop you for doing something I'm going to do later...Just don't drive like you've seen "The Fast and the Furious" 150 times and you'll be fine..
Also someone mentioned window tint...While I have 20% and love it, dark glass is a nightmare to a cop on a traffic stop...The courts have held that we can open your doors (with force if necessary) if we can't see inside your car. If we cant see you inside its an unsafe situation for both of us. Do us and you a favor and put down your windows if you get pulled over. Little stuff like that can turn a ticket into a warning. To most of us its just a job, not all of us are a$$holes...Get an F-body and have fun and drive respectfully until you hit the track...Then all bets are off!!

but that's just one man's opinion, do whatever you want to do
Re: Camaro Cop Target?
Ok well when i made that statement it was kinda meant as a joke. Im a Military Police Officer and if anything like that happened here deadly force would be authorized and someone would definitely get hurt, cuz if there's one thing that Marines do good is shooting. Just to clear that up DONT DO AS I WAS SAYING in case someone would actually take my sarcasm as advice. My bad.

Re: Camaro Cop Target?
small town cops tend to be the "tough guy" cops we all hate. a lot of the younger cops are trying to make a name for themselves by being *******s. they think it's intimidating. in a small town near by, there is an officer known by most of northern indiana as "officer brown". he's some old guy who thinks he owns the town. he is the sherrif or whatever of the police department in that town (his department is the lowest on the chain of authority in our county). he pulls people over for 5 over the limit, he checks tints, and he's even been known to check fender heights of hardly modded 4x4's. just dumb stuff like that. he thinks he's clint eastwood of Osceola. Back to the topic, i don't believe in cops targeting vehicles for their make. My parents always told me cops watch camaro's, but i know 90% of cops have better things to do than follow camaros and wait for them to do something wrong. Most cops around here are nice, at least the ones i delt with. but the indiana state troopers....mercy.
is their problem?
is their problem?
Re: Camaro Cop Target?
Been a cop for twenty years and I own an F-body. Most LEO's are very interested in cars, sort of a professional interest even if not a personal one.
Here are some no-BS answers:
Cops can "make up" probable cause yes, but chances are most anyone can give them real PC if you look hard enough. At a minimum, it's easy to get a minor violation to stop someone for. Not saying LEO's should, but it's there, a tool to be used when needed.
Sports cars, muscle cars, hot-rods, etc., will always get looks from cops....they get looks from everybody!!! Sort of the point ain't it?
Doing something "stupid" will get you attention that you may not really want. On the other hand, if you see a patrol car in traffic and you are being courteous to other drivers (like allowing them to merge, etc.) it can also get you some atta boy points that keep you out of trouble.
Yes, there are some cops who have attitude problems. Most don't make it for long. Just understand that the majority of cops are looking for the real idiots out there and that's who they want to deal with. Whether you have a Camaro or a Yugo, it's your actions that decide their REACTION. Drive like you have sense and you'll be okay. Save the all-out stuff for the track.
Take care,
John

Re: Camaro Cop Target?
Maybe its just the area that I live in, but my Camaro has been great in terms of "stealth" factor from cops. Knock on wood, but I havent been hassled yet from cops. We have SO much rice on the streets causing accidents and getting involved in street racing that if you are driving a civic with any sort of exhaust whatesoever, you are asking to get pulled over. Even when I had open exhaust and cops were directly behind me, they never looked at me funny or gave me extra scrutiny, and this is when I was driving around on MT's, had the bottle in plain sight in my back seat and was running no cats!!

oorahh!
