A/C Question
When I bought this car over the summer, the A/C blew ice cold. About a month or two ago, the A/C started progressively getting less and less cold. Now, at this point, the A/C doesn't seem to be working at all. It comes out just like the outside air, and is just as humid as the outside air as well.
Does anybody know if this would be caused by a leak somewhere, or is the the symptom of a certain A/C component going bad?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am about to go to an A/C shop and I don't feel like getting ripped off for whatever B.S. they throw at me, I know NOTHING about Air Conditioning components. I have yet to pay less than $500 at any A/C shop for any A/C repair

Most likely the freon has leaked out. Turn the car on and then turn the a/c on and check if the a/c clutch is engaging. If it isn't then you could go one step further and check to see if there is 12V at the compressor with the a/c switch on. This will not tell you anything if the pressure switch is not activated due to low freon, BUT, it will let you know if the compressor is bad if there is voltage at the connector.
It certainly sounds like a slow leak, but I couldn't tell you for sure. Unfortunately, you'll have to pay to get it checked out and then some more to get it fixed. Unless you're on friendly terms with any mechanics, that is. It's not too much trouble to hook some gauges up and see if there's any pressure in the system.
