A/C problems

I recently purchased a '98 camaro ss/slp this winter. When summer hit, i used the T-tops all the time. When i finally went on a long road trip, me and my buddy noticed that the passenger side was filling with water. At first i thought it was the heater coil, we stopped and checked fluids, every thing was cool. I dropped him off in ohio and continued my way to wisconsin, the water shorted my stereo in chicago, and over heated my altenator and destroyed it. Well, got the altenator fixed, went the rest of the way to wisconsin. Picked up the girl in my now mildew smelling car (she was not impressed). On the way back down to virginia, she wanted the ac on the entire time..... basically, my car flooded on the inside, i was bailing water like crazy every time i stopped for gas. So, if any of you gear heads can tell me how i can stop this from happening, please help. I love cars like anyone else, but i have been blessed with no mechanical skills at all.

also, can some one please tell me what the difference between a camaro ss and the camaro ss with the slp package, people are constantly asking me and i just make stuff up to make them happy and leave me alone.
