What is skip shift?

I,ve noticed the Skip Shift on my gauges. What is this? I tried a search on skip shift, but didn,t realy find any good info. The skip shift light has never came on while my car is running, but just wondered what it is. I have a 95 A4.

it's used on a M6 tranny. under specific condistions will take you from 1st to 4th... it's suposed to save gas but is more of an anoyance than anything. thats why most people bypass them

While were on the topic and rather that start another thread - before I disabled skip shift, I had tried to use it...and it never worked the way I think it should have. My car always bogged when I was forced into 4th gear...I would always then just put it back into N and wait till 2nd gear was an option. Because of this, I was always afraid the car would stall or something in 4th gear, so I would be sure just to give it more gas in 1st. Well, I had to give it more gas in first gear making a left in the rain one day to avoid stalling and embarassment, and instead chose to fishtail....next day I disabled it.

So was mine just messed up? Was it supposed to give me the feeling my car would stall/bog?

it's basically supposed to feel that way....that's why it is such an annoyance.

Skipshift is LAME.

It sounds / feels like your entire transmission is about to fall off when you're forced into fourth...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news......but your car has major problems! Mine felt the same way until I had my plug wires changed and got a new opti. 2 of my plug wires were burnt through! It was running on 6 cylinders!

... cars fine... it's just the 1->4 takes me by surprise everytime so it takes a split second or more for me to realize i need to go into 4th instead of 2nd.. so the RPM drops a bit, so it seems as if the car is about to stall or whatnot, like whomever mentioned it above

talking about a 2001 though, so no opti

Ahhhh I didnt know it was an 01. Even still it wasnt the opti that fixed mine it was the new plug wires. I wonder if LS1's burn plug wires as often as the LT1?
