A/C compressor won't kick on

A/C compressor won't kick on
I went to turn my a/c on and all I got was warm air. I checked under the hood and noticed the compressor was off. I figured maybe it was low so I went to the store and picked up some r134 and put some in and nothing happened. All the fuses are fine and so is the connector on the compressor. I also installed the hypertech programmer so could that possibly cause a problem? I know most of you will tell me to just rip it out but it's currently an everyday driver and my girl is driving it. Plus it's way to hot in Florida to not have it. Any ideas?

Re: A/C compressor won't kick on
hey u can give me a call if u would like and i will try and walk you through it but, get somesort of power tester, weather its a multimeter, or a logic probe or something to check if u have power to the compresor with the controls on the dash "on", once u check that, if u do have power to the compressor, then the compresor is bad(since its not coming on) if you do not then we have to check a couple more things, numbers 972 746 8925 names jake

all your have to do is unhook your battery for a couple of hours and reset computer. When freon is low it senses it and shuts power to compresser so u dont fry it.i had that happen to me that fixed it\

I'm replacing my compressor, drier, expansion valve, and orifice tube in mine. It should be nice, cold, and worry free

Re: A/C compressor won't kick on
I did what lt1srule said to do and it worked. It didn't blow cold air at first so I put some r-134a in and now it works so I guess there is a leak somewhere I got to find. Thanks for the help.

Re: A/C compressor won't kick on
I'm having the same problem with my son's 94 Z28. I tried shorting the high pressure switch and I heard the fans come on, but the compressor was still not turning. I had a gauge hooked up to the suction side and it was at 130 psi, is this a good pressure when the compressor is not turning.
I'll try disconnecting the battery to see if I can get the compressor to start turning, then I'll see if it will take some freon.

Re: A/C compressor won't kick on
This thread helped me tremendously. I was about to get a new compressor, then I decided to disconnect the battery to reset the computer. It worked like a charm. I put in a couple of cans of 134a and it's worked great ever since.
