Building your own shortblock. What tools?

If you were to build your own garage built stroker, after the machine shop prepped the block, what tools would you need to install the stroker kit? Looking for prices and kits as well so I'm open to suggestions. Thanx

Engine stand
Short Block Piston Install Kit
Micrometers
Plastiguage
Rubber hammer
feeler guages
Tool to measure thrust/crank play bearing play?
???

I was going to suggest the same book. Read through it, and note the tools that are being used.

I built my shortblock and I got burned. Lasted 20 miles before killing 3 main bearings. I attributed to something as simple as "assuming" the crank grinder cleaned the crank so therefore I did not have to.

There is little room for error when building your short block. Bearing clearances must be right, ring gaps must be right and everything must be very clean. Also I would not trust plastigage.

Just give this some very serious thought. I would have a good engine builder build the short block and the you can easily do the rest.

How do you know that it was from a few dirty crank bearings? What were the signs?

Cranks are always dirty when you get them back. If they cleaned them it would be pointless because they would flash rust. They leave them oily so they dont rust. YOU are supposed to clean EVERY part before you install it, no matter how long ago you cleaned it and bagged it. Making sure the parts are perfectly clean b4 installing them is key.
