Blueprinted engine

When someone says there engine is blue printed, does this mean its high performance or what?

Re: Blueprinted engine

It just means the critical parts are within tolerance.

Re: Blueprinted engine

means that every measurement/spec has been checked and corrected to be within the "blueprint" specs for thst engine

and so you know, OEM factory built enginee up until recently were almost never in spec

I know a guy that did spot checks on Ford 302 back in the early 90's that were WAY out of spec(crank centerline to bellhousing alingment wasn't even close), yet thase engines are still out there running today

blueprinting allows for the best performing, longest lasting engine possible, barring any other factors

Re: Blueprinted engine

yeah blueprinting is a very good thing, but expensive because it involves lots of time in measuring and fixing things that are slightly off. A blueprinted engine is the only way to go when reaching in the high rpms

Re: Blueprinted engine

And while it may well make a bit more power than otherwise, the main purpose is getting good balance (smoother) and longer life no matter how you run the thing. Eliminating tolerance buildups can also allow for significantly longer life due to eliminating parts not lining up perfectly and allow for higher revs where otherwise torsional vibrations might make nasty things happen....

Re: Blueprinted engine

The other thing that wasn't mentioned is that all the measurements are recorded for that engine, from top to bottom; the torque on each rod bolt to the crankshaft clearances to the endplay. It's done on most race engines or test engines to determine wear patterns after races or after XXX miles to determine how much deterioration has occoured inside the motor.

It is very time consuming to adjust and measure every little thing, but it basically assures the motor is for lack of a better word, perfect.
