aside from the 454. with a little firewall modification, a 572ci as in the zl1 prototype can fit.

been done many times.

years ago...back in the 90s...some magazine did a writeup of how to put a 502 crate motor in a 4th gen.

but other than the "awe" factor...maybe a little more low end grunt...there is no reason to go through the $$ or hassle.

with a basic heads/cam setup you can run 450rwhp on a stock short block LSx motor. for more torque step up to a nice stroker.

similar hp potential, better gas efficiency, more sleeper, and lighter weight

Re: big block in an F-body??

kind of a different situation. my buddy currently has a mid 70's camaro with a 454 he built in it. the body is getting old, and he just found a 94 firebird with a blown motor. he wants to put the 454 he already has in there. i think he plans on dropping the turbo 350 trans in with it too.

so there really isn't any extra cost.

770hp from a crate engine is substantially " little more low end grunt"

one of my in-laws friends bought the 572 from crane for 10k. had some problems with it at first, crane replaced it free. with a little tweaking, it hit 1000hp n/a

You're very vague with the question. Which gen of f-body????????????

Some 1st and 2nd gens had factory installed big blocks.
3rd and 4th gen is possible and has been done, but if you have an LS1...what would be the advantage of doing this besides bragging rights?

Re: big block in an F-body??

Yes it can be done. You will need a k-member w/ BBC mounts or make your own on the factory one. Crab cap distributor to fit under the cowl. The tranny will be easy, just need a new crosmember, shifter should be close to the same spot in the floorboard as well. Only real problem IMO would be the carb or fuel injection set-up fitting under the hood. Carb would have to cut the cowl up pretty good and there are several different options for fuel injection all of which have their own problems from hood clearance, linkage, sensor location, etc.

I know of someone personally who has done it w/ a 454 and a 98 f-body.
It's a monster. Painted eletric lime green, located in Imlay City, MI.
