battery storage question

okay i have a battery tenderizer that i use. my garage is not insulated so it does get kinda cold in the winter. now my last battery was old but didn't get much use and sat for like almost a year in the charger. well the battery had a low charge pretty often. alternator checked out good.

question is- should i first not keep the battery on the tenderizer all the time?

should i keep the battery inside my house in the basement on a table and not charge it?

should i keep it in my basement on the table and keep it chargeing?

Re: battery storage question

The whole purpose of the Battery Tender is to be kept on your battery full-time, to keep it in the perfect state of charge. I keep my Formula in an unheated garage, with the battery connected to the car, and the Battery Tender connected to the battery full-time. The battery is always ready to start the car, but it not being damaged by the over-charging you would get from a conventional battery charger.

I can't see any advantage in putting the battery in a heated area.... "cold" probably slows down the reactions that eat up the battery plates.

Re: battery storage question

i always pull mine out and put in on my work bench. my buddy has a 05 GTO and on there GTO website guys told him to just keep it somewhere warm and don't put it on any type of charger and it will be fine. i was like ah... maybe if it was brand new and never used, like sitting on the shelf at the store i would agree with that. it has been a month and he has not started the car or messed with his battery. the cost of a battery compared too $20.00 for the tenderizer would make my mind up

Thanks Fred
