My old battery went dead on my camaro so I bought a new one but now I notice that the battery gauge is in the middle area when I remember it being higher before. Isnt the battery gauge supposed to read higher than the middle area?

 

The middle line is 13V. There, or slightly to the right (13.5-13.8) would be normal. Right after you start the engine, it would typicaly be higher, as the alternator replaces the power that you pulled out of the battery to start the engine.

 

AT the battery with the engine idling, check the voltage.. It should reading around 13.8~14.2 volts....
