Batt relocation Q...
Batt relocation Q...
What are the dimentions of the batt relo kit?...Height wise. Do you have to use the c/o switch?
I was just wondering what the height was for it. I was wondering if it would fit under my T-top box for my subs.

Re: Batt relocation Q...
NHRA requires that all relocated batteries have a master cutoff switch accessible from outside the vehicle. The battery must also be in a sealed and vented NHRA-approved box. The box you pick will determine the dimensions.
Re: Batt relocation Q...
A typical parts store Marine Battery Box will not work in a hatchback type car. You'll need a Tayler or Moroso NHRA/IHRA approved battery box if you wish to take the car to the track. It you never want to go to the track, you can mount the battery any way you wish.
As mentioned above, any relocated battery must have a master switch. The master switch must be mounted at the rear. It can not be made of plastic or keyed. Off must be clearly marked. If installed as a push/pull, off must be in the push position. When turned off, it must kill all the electrics in the car and kill the engine.

I've got an Optima batt. I've been thinking of engine bay clean up and weight reduction lately.
If the master switch is supposed to kill the whole car, in a sense, how would one wire that up?

Re: Batt relocation Q...
The Optima is not a "dry cell", and it can "gas" if overcharged - read the FAQ on the Optima website. It's the "gassing" that concerns NHRA, since one of the gasses is hydrogen, and hydrogen can explode. The other gasses will be sulfates, which cause corrosion when they recombine with water in the air to form sulfuric acid.
Apparently, NHRA will accept the hatch area "bulkhead" that Wolfe sells for the 4th Gen, in lieu of the sealed and vented box, which really doesn't make a lot of sense.
