Re: Cant Disable Airbag light

I'm just gonna cut them all and terminate the ends. I'll cross my fingers and let you know what happens in a couple hours .

Yeah, the brown wire is the one I cut and it got rid of the Airbag light. It is in the harness that goes to the Airbag module under the center console.

Ok, guys sorry for a bringing up an old thread, but here goes. I have the same problem with the Airbag light coming on with a stock setup and all airbags hooked up. Can this code be pulled thru the OBD-1 or is it a separate system as if I remember they couldn't get it when I took it to Autozone to scan the code. Does anyone know how to determine the problem and to scan it for the code?

PS
All fuses check out as well.

Let this post die a fitting death and ask a question

Start a new post. Yes it can be scanned just as any other code. AZ couldn't scan it cause they think because the connector is OBDII the system is but it's OBDI as you know.

Another reason to start a new post is this one WAS for replacing the steering wheel. To do that, it's easy. Yours is a different case entirely or so it seems.

AIRBAG Code/Light? Can't turn light off

Allright guys Speedygonzales has already given me some input on the following, but I was hoping others could help out: See my message:

I have the problem with the Airbag light coming on with a stock setup and all airbags hooked up. Can this code be pulled thru the OBD-1 or is it a separate SRS system? If I remember they couldn't get it when I took it to Autozone to scan the code. Does anyone know how to determine the problem and to scan it for the code, as I am trying to determine where the problem lies if it is a bad BCM or airbag sensor?

PS
All fuses check out as well.

Just wanted to tell you that I had my airbag light on and my ABS, had to take it to CHEVY for them to fix it. I believe it was because of a bad return ground to the computer. My receipt says: "found no communication with ABS module and air bag module-followed flow chart and traced fault back to poor contact for return ground (G101). Necessary to repair ground.

You should be able to hook up a scan tool and request an SIR DTC (trouble code). The best way to troubleshoot it is with the factory manuals, as it will tell you step by step how to handle each different DTC. I'd list a few for you, but I have OBD2 , not sure how much different it is.

Hmm i took mine to 3 different autozones down here and they hooked up their scanners to my car but kept getting errors.. So i learned from shoebox and this forum that the 95 z28 has a obd II connection and the computer is really a obd I.. And at autozone down here they only have the obd II scanners. I dont know if its the same with tas though

my .02

i have an airbag light on its because of a clock spring...
does anyone know if they go bad when the airbag deplays? ive got 2 columns here that i could simply put my wheel on and go with, or can i take it apart and use tha clock spring in my column?

I figured as much, anyone know where I can get OBD1 scanned so I don't have to pay the dealer my arm and leg to find out what the problem is?

The average "scanner" will only access the PCM codes. You need a high end scanner, like the ones the dealer uses - OTC Tech-1 or Tech-2 - to access things like the SRS and ABS systems.

Moving to "General......" This is not an engine tech topic.

Also not a good idea to start a new thread that duplicates one that is already active. You lose the continuity of all the suggestions and input that has already been made. Merging threads................
