Cant Disable Airbag light

I bought a momo fighter steering wheel to replace the ugly looking stock one. The airbag light is still on, and its pissing me off. I did a search and alot of people were saying to snip the Brown wire that connects to the BCM, and I did. But nothing happened. I dont want to go snipping more wires without getting more information. BTW that steering wheel is sweeeeet

You saw my fighter and bought yours afterwards, didn't you?

I later on find out that the brown wire thing must only be applicable on up to year 95... Sorry, I don't have diagrams for 96-97....

They sure do, but it must be in a different location. Easy if you have a 96 or a 97 shop manual, which I don't.. Sorry.
But yes, the Fighter was a great wheel. I'm gonna put one in my 93 too.

Also don't forget to get yourself a Momo boot and Momo Sphere shift ****. If you do get the Sphere ****, get the one wraped in leather. I had the all aluminum one and it was getting scratched very easy.

Hey wolf thanks for the info. Wouldnt the same wire be connected to the fuse box?? Does that make sense?? LoL. Im not to savy with the electrical part of these cars, so excuse me if that sounds stupid. I thought if it was maybe i can try locating the same wire that connects to the BCM?? Again sorry if that sounds stupid!

No, the fuse does not cover the airbag light. It provides power to the airbag system, but if the PCM detects there's no power (aka no fuse or bad fuse) it will set the AIR BAG light.
You need to find out (and let me know too ) which wire from the BCM goes to the airbag light on the cluster and cut or disconnect that one.

I am bringing this post back up, because I am wondering if anyone knows anymore about this? I did a search and came across this post and another. The other post said to cut a brown wire off the BCM, but that was on 95 and earlier models. Anyone have a clue as to what wire to cut on the 96-97 models? I am trying to read my Helm's manual, but I think its a little over my head at the moment. I'll keep trying to figure it out and may just pull the cluster and pull the bulb, because I will be doing a scanmaster install into that vent near the guages soon anyways.

OK, if I am reading this manual right, then it looks to be the brown wire coming off the SDM (little box under the center console near the e-brake). Can anyone who is a little more familiar with these electric diagrams and has a service manual confirm this? I am leaning toward just pulling the bulb anyways, but might help someone else out.

I'm having the same problem but I still have the stock steering wheel. My light stays on. Ive checked all the connectors and fuses related to the airbags and they all looked okay. Is there anything else I can do w/o having a professional look at it?

I just went the easy way and pulled out the bulb. I had the same problem as stated above stock steering wheel and the light came on. I really didnt care though, I checked everything and just said screw it and pulled out the bulb.

Re: Cant Disable Airbag light

Yes actually I got rid of my light without removing the bulb, but I forgot all about this thread.

I got the light after removing the module under the console. There is a wire in the harness that must ground or something when you remove the module. I simply cut that wire. I think it was black, but I dont remember. My dad helped me find which one it was with a voltage meter. I currently have the console and tranny out of my car, so I will look again to see exactly which wire I cut.

Re: Cant Disable Airbag light

Matt: You're saying you had a ground a certain wire in that harness? Did you have to add in a certain resistor, or just ground the wire straight?

Man, if you could check it for sure I'd really appreciate it!

Re: Cant Disable Airbag light

Nah, I didn't have to ground anything at all. I only had to cut a wire. I am at work right now, but I will check it out when I get home.

Basically, I already had both airbags out, and did not have a light. I decided to pull the module out under the console and this gave me a light. There is a wire in the harness to the module that grounds itself when the module is removed. All you have to do is cut this wire. I will double check on exactly which wire it was when I get home.
