Additives that REALLY work?..

I noticed alot of those liquid additives out there may aswell be filled with water because it does nothing to your car... so I'm posting this asking what Gas, Oil, even Transmission additive out there really works?

Just name any of them you can think of that made a difference in your car...

Gas , Oil, or Transmission....

I know for a FACT (saw before and after combustion chambers through a borescope) that BG 44k works in your gas tank, and will clean out your combustion chambers. I hear that sea-foam works well also.

I used seafoam and it made a difference in 5 minutes. I dropped half a can in my brake booster and the other half in my cranckcase, and another bottle in my fuel tank. Let it sit 5 minutes. Filled the whole street up with smoke and it ran a hell of a lot smoother after.

In my experience, Marvel Mystery Oil, Seafoam [or GM TEC] and Water Wetter are good products..

Hey how do you use seafoam anyway? Where's the brake booster line and can I add it to the oil at anytime without worrying about overfilling or should I add to oil when I'm ready to change the oil?

Re: Additives that REALLY work!

brake booster line is right next to the master cylinder for the brakes. Get your car fully warmed up. Unplug the brake booster and cover it with your finger for a second so it doesnt stall. Pour about 1/2 a can seafoam into it and then let the car stall. Plug the brake booster line back in and wait about 5 minutes for the seafoam to do its thing. You really should put some in the fuel tank too. Start the car up and run it to its fullest (do some hard launches and keep the rpms high for a few minutes until smoke stops pouring out from behind you). After 5 mins you should be done and running alot smoother. Be careful with it in your oil. I heard some horror stories about it gelling peoples oil but it wasnt the case for me. You are supposed to drop it in 500 mi before an oil change.

When you put in the seafoam, PUT IT IN SLOWLY! Else you risk hyrdolocking your engine.

Then now's a good time because I have about 1k miles left...

Is the brake booster line (I have a V6) that long hose that runs from the back of the engine to that black cylendar on the firewall of the driversside?

Another vote for water wetter. Someone asked about Lucas, I tried it once and it actually dropped my oil pressure. Not good. I also remember a thread on here about testing done on the Lucas Additive and showed it actually frothing up. :O Stay away from ZMax too.

2 thumbs up for seafoam

864,964,142 thumbs down for lucas oil transmission treatment. Put it in my 85 LTD and the next morning i had to floor the car to accelerate and it accelerated as if i was idleing, then at about 5 mph it felt like i neutral bombed it and it drove normal till i stopped agian. Trans was working fine till i added it. I worked at a parts store and figure it cant hurt to add it right. i was WRONG! The stuff was so thick it made motor honey look like 0W20. Cant beleive i was dumb enough to put it in. I was 16a t the time is my excuse.

If you take care of your car, you shouldn't need any additives. They are mostly a way to lighten your wallet. Even the top engine cleaners like Seafoam and similar can cause your O2s to get fouled and then you have to spend the money to replace them.

Re: Additives that REALLY work!

Rob you cannot take the O2 sensors out and plug the holes with a bolt for the cleaning process?

I don't know I am just asking...would be great if that was possible

Maybe some old O2s? Be careful of what you put in there. They are not normal bolt threads.

Re: Additives that REALLY work!

i'm gonna get 2 bottles. 1/2 for my oil crank case and half for the booster, and a full for the fuel tank.

i'm gonna let the car warm up, turn it off, unplug the brake booster and pour it in there slowly. put half in the crankcase, and full in my fuel.

does that sound good? then after 5-10 minutes i'll turn it on.
