AC service questions

I have had nothing but trouble with my AC for the past few years, I have now decided to overhaul it. This is my plan of action, am I missing anything?

Compressor is operating sluggishly and intermittently locking up, causing belt squeal so I have decided to replace the compressor with a new GM/Delphi unit. While engaged, I am going to replace the expansion valve and receiver/dryer. I ordered both new OEM replacements for both from the dealer.

Is there a measurable advantage to a new condenser? It is not leaking, nor has given me any reason so suspect fault. However, if in principal only, the condenser functions similarly to a radiator which often benefits when a flush descale cleanses it out.

Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated.

Re: AC service questions

it should be cleaned out well if you don't replace it. if any part of the compressor has worn down and come loose, or if the compressor takes a complete dump, the condensor will get clogged full of crap. that being said, some of the crap will go through it then plug up about everything else. you'll want every component as clean as possible to prevent further problems including your hoses and pipes.

Re: AC service questions

I wouldn't replace your expansion valve. But whenever replacing your compressor always replace the receiver dryer. Just make sure your a/c condenser isn't plugged up.
