AC question

'95 Z28 M6, basically stock except for exhaust and CAI. 109k miles.

AC is properly filled with 134a and compressor seems to work as it should. Not sure if fans are working as they should. If I understand correctly, both electric fans should engage as soon as I flip the AC on right? And stay on until the AC is shut off, regardless of engine temp? What controls the fans turning on and where is it located? Is it a part that can be repaired/replaced or is it just a function of the computer?

I ask because even though everything else seems to work fine, it does not blow cold enough to keep interior comfortable when idling or in stop and go traffic, but once moving, it does an "ok" job, but still does not seem to be as cold as it should be.

Recently moved to Florida, so problem is getting more annoying quite quickly...I know all you northeners are gonna rant but after living in northern Indiana for 34 years I've earned the right to live here

Possibly one bad fan or one bad relay? Does either fan come on when you turn the a/c on?

Your condensor could be filled with dirt/crap. If you have access to a compressor, try sticking a blower (not sure what to call it, but a 3 foot long 45 degree angled at the end blower) between your radiator and condensor and blow alll the dust and dirt out. I do this about once a year and in the extreme heat here in florida, just this little trick always helps keep the a/c that much cooler.

The fans are controlled by the computer. As long as ambient temps are high enough, the fans should come on with the a/c and stay on for about 30 seconds after you turn the a/c off. The fans will also go off when you are above a certain MPH and the refrigerant pressure meets a certain threshold. When you slow back down, they will re-engage.
