AC Question

I went to hook up my vintage 90's AC gages on the Z and it looks like it is now some sort of fitting like an air coupler. Where can I get hoses or adaptors to fit my gages to the car? I did a cursory look at autozone and didn't turn anything up.

Re: AC Question

your old gauges are for R12, all cars since 94ish(some earlier) use R134-A, which uses different fittings

Re: AC Question

Yeah, you'll have to get a gage set for 134A. You don't want to use the same equipment from the R12 on the 134A. The R12 used a mineral based oil and the 134A uses a synthetic oil and the two are not compatible (actually the seals and o-rings will deteriorate). You don't want to contaminate either system with the wrong lubricant, which might have some residual amounts left in the gage set hoses. Of course the refrigerants are different too. That's why the fittings are different.

1992 was the year that basically everyone had R134A You should just get a new set of gaugues, they aren't that expensive. There is a retrofit kit though that you can buy.

not really, I know for a fact that a 92 camaro was R12, and a 93 grand prix was R12, so, no, everything was not R134-A in 92, 94 was the year, everything after 94 will be R134-A
