AC problem
background-
AC system was empty, I hooked a can of r134a up, and the compressor would not kick on (AC was on inside car). sometimes the lowpressure switch will not allow AC compressor to cycle when low, so I jumpered it. AC clutch works, and the compressor turn on. HOWEVER, no freon seems to being pumped in and as soon as I remove the jumper the clutch stops.
i could hear/feel the freon rushing in when I first hooked it up, but it didnt seem to get sucked in by the compressor..
Even tho the compressor makes no abnormal noises.. and the clutch does work when jumped, could it still be bad?

How was the system empty? Could oxygen possibly be in the system? If so you need to put a vacum on it.
What kind of pressure are you getting on both the low/high side with the freon u have in it now?

its completely emtpy. I realize i SHOULD put a vacuum on it, but I have in the past been succesful just charging it, sometimes jumping the compressor to get things going.
You sound like me there. Have you checked the orifice tube? That could be blocked off. Also, you mention that you "felt" freon released from the can. Did it become cold while you were filling it?
I'm gonna have to go with my frst statement and say "chack the orifice tube"
Also, does anyone know the gap spec for the ac clutch? 97Z

The low side reading should be 30-35 and the high side should be around 230-250 on a nice hot regular summer day. Any pressures higher then that would tell you there is to much freon in there...
Our system takes only 2lbs of the 134a I think ...
I just charged mine over the weekend..
I got my a/c temps down to 45 at idle... hehe and BHURRRRRRRRR

You'd be surprised how quick the system will take in freon, even more then it needs, When I did mine it took so quick, I had about 4lbs in the system, It was a royal pain to get the extra stuff out, Took much longer then it needed to..
Keep your eye on the low/high side pressures ...

1 can is not gonna do it. 3 is about right. first off why was it empty? second of all NEVER EVER jump the switch and let it run ESPECIALY when you know it's low. also. you need to see what the pressures are doing. it;s key in figureing out the trouble
The system should take enough to where it will cycle untill it has a full charge. if you jump it with no freon then you rish ruining the compressor FAST.. and if you let it keep running with low low freon then you risk the same as well as pulling the suction side so low that it will freeze up. also. you don;t have an orifice tube. it;s an expantion system. if you fill me in on all the details I can help you out
