96' Z28 vs 95' Trans Am

What do you guys think the odds are for me? My buddy just got a 95' Trans Am that is completely stock. We haven't been able to race yet because we put them away for winter. We played around a bit and it kinda went back and forth, but it was nothing serious. My Z28 is an automatic and his Trans Am is a 6 speed. He thinks he's going to smoke my doors off, but I say no. I'm confident in my baby... Also, when I raced that Ford lightning coming back from the Woodward Ave. Car Show... he was no where to be found.

Hmmm... Stock T/A m6 vs. Cammed camaro with intake & cat-back... what are the odds...

I think it will go back and forth depending on a dig or a roll, from a dig he should be able to drop the clutch and take you off the line but without more detailed cam specs I wouldn't know how fast you would catch up.. but you will . Everybody knows Trans Am pack an extra 25HP because of the wing and firebird emblems, so watch out!

From a roll you should have him if you manually shift your auto instead of waiting for it to shift when you go WOT.

Once you get those Hooker LTs you will be far ahead of him and just keep pulling because the engine will be able to breathe MUCH better (aftermarket cam with no headers? come on!) and to beat him from a dig CONSISTANTLY you will need a good stall converter.

Have fun and race safely.

Nice

The only difference I feel between our cars is the the obvious one: Auto to the manual trans. I feel I have the faster car. As far as from the get go...his car simply burns the tires off. Mine however, grabs and goes. I don't know if I have any traction bars in the back, I've never investigated. He has no wing though...It's a convertible. But I see where you are going...

Also, my auto transmission does not give me the option to pull it into first and shift manually from there. Am I the only one?

Nope, mine would not go into 1st either. It was what GM did in 96-97 for the autos with 2.73 gears to meet noise laws, well that is what I heard. If you lift up your consule and look in there and pull the shifter back you will see the piece of plastic in there keeping it from going into first, just simply remove that piece and you can now shift manually into first.

The "no 1st gear" was used in all years of the base 2.73 rear axle 4th Gen LT1 A4's. It is not unique to 96/97.

As noted... wrong forum.

I've heard this before, but it's simply not true. It's not possible to put these transmissions in 1st gear. Removing the stop will allow the trans to go back further, but there is nothing there.

Do you have a cam???? It's in your sig but you said nothing about it. If you have what's in your sig and a 2.73 geared A4, it could be real close if he can learn to launch with minimal tire spin.

Just courious, does your speedo stop at 115mph? The 2.73 cars were speed limited to 115mph (or something close to that). If that's what you have, all he has to do is go faster than that and you loose.

I don't know... tons of people have removed the first gear stop and then can access first gear with no problem.
