94 Z28 Idle heat issues.
I have a 1994 Z28 that runs great, temps normal as long as I am driving. But when I let it idle the temps will climb all the way to red. The gauge will completely max out if I don't press the gas or turn it off. I have checked to see if the fans are working and I am 99% sure they are working when this issue happens. I know the water pump is driven off the Camshaft, I guess that's why pressing the gas at idle keeps it cool. But if I don't baby sit it, the car will always climb to max out levels...Help me please!

Re: 94 Z28 Idle heat issues.
Have you:
-checked for obstructions in front of the radiator?
-verified thermostat is working?
-verified BOTH fans are working? (don't guess)
-verified the first fan (or both on low speed, depending on when in the model year your 94 was built) comes on at 226*F and the second fan (or both on high speed) at 235*F
-verified all the air has been correctly bled from the system
-verified radiator is clean, not crudded up
-verified radiator stays full, with no air space
-verified cap is maintaining 18psi pressure
How many miles on the car? Any modifications? Manual or auto trans (auto trans can add heat load to radiator)? Where are you located and what is the ambient temperature? When is the last time the coolant was changed and the radiator flushed?
Increased RPM increases coolant flow, no matter whether the pump is gear driven of belt driven.

Re: 94 Z28 Idle heat issues.
I see you already posted this problem a couple months ago, and I responded. Did you follow up on my suggestions?
