4th Gen HVAC question
4th Gen HVAC question
On my '95, when I turn the HVAC control from vent to floor to defrost, the air comes out the defrost duct, no matter where the switch is positioned. The A/C compressor turns on when it's supposed to, though.
I figure the problem is either with the switch or the actuator that moves the door inside the dash. Does anyone know if this is a common problem, and which end I should first look at: the switch or the air door? And finally, if the problem is at the air door, where is it and how do you get to it?
Thanks in advance.
Jim

Re: 4th Gen HVAC question
The default position for the system is Defrost. In absense of vacuum, it will default to defrost.
It sounds like you have a vacuum problem. I bet there is a problem where the vacuum hose for the HVAC controld attaches to the intake.

Thanks for the great replies TABAHR and n2ceptor. And the photo was great! I'm on vacation tomorrow, it's supposed to be 80 degrees, and I plan to try to get that problem fixed.
Thanks again for the help!

Re: 4th Gen HVAC question
Thanks for the help, guys!
The problem was the check valve. Because of your help I was able to go straight to the problem (and not spend hours figuring it out) and then waltz right into the Chevy parts department with GM part number in hand and walk out with the correct part without waiting for the parts jockey to figure out what I needed.
If only all problems could be fixed so easily.
Thanks again!
