4th Gen Fuel Gauge Sending Unit - Replacement?
in my 94 z8 the fuel gauge is off and i can only get the sender with the whole fuel pump assembly and it's way too much for the assembly just to be needing the fuel sender any suggestions on it

What exactly do you mean when you say your fuel gauge is "off"? The factory gauge is always "off" because of the shape of the tank. See Shoebox's writeup:

Were you looking specifically for a GM part? I had the same problem 10 years ago, and there were no aftermarket level sending replacements. Had to pay over $200 for a GM pump support assembly, with a new sending unit, then drill the rivets out and move the new sending unit to my stock support assembly, that had been modified for a Bosch fuel pump.
I thought I heard in the past couple of years that someone had found an aftermarket level sending unit..... but I can't remember where. Might get more reads and responses if the "topic" for the post was "4th Gen fuel level sending replacement". I can change the topic for you if you agree that would help.

i would agree with changing the post title i'm not sure why i didn't think of it earlier. when i fill the tank up i goes to far over the "f" and as i drive it never drops level until i turn it off then it'll show the right level but as soon as i turn the switch on to start the gauge will go up from where it was bout 1/4 inch or so
