305 out of iroc into 4.3 s-10
305 out of iroc into 4.3 s-10
how difficult is it to put a 305 out of an iroc into a s-10 that had a 4.3. obviously the are some ramifications with the computer but can you just change the computer, or chip it to compensate for the 8 cylinders versurs 6 let me know what yall think...........thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: 305 out of iroc into 4.3 s-10
you need v8 motor mounts specifically designed for the s10 (summit and jegs has em), specially designed headers, a rear, and some other small stuff. its a fairly big project.
check www.blazinlow.com, they do a LOT of those kind of swaps over there.

Also, just a thought, there is quite a good aftermarket already for the 4.3L so with some bolt ons or even a full rebuild with cams and reworked heads I'm sure can push you well beyond the output of a 305 motor with alot less hassle.

offhand, i do remember, i had a 4.3L s10, and i raced my friends 91 Formula with a 305 in it, and i beat him by like 3 cars. So i wouldnt drop a 305 in, youll get the v8 sound, but v6 performance. go for the 350, dont do it half assed.

The 305 is not really a good engine for performance applications, you'd be a lot better off to go with the 350, it just seems like a lot of work to end up with the lackluster performance of a 305 IMO. The cheapest and easiest way to do it would be with a carbureted small block so you cuold eliminate the PCM and wiring harness, but the best way in my opinion would be to go with a later model fuel injected small block (L98,LT1, or LS1)

I've looked at this site for quite some time with interest.
They have everything a person needs to do a V8 conversion.
On a side note...........for all the trouble it's worth - I'd throw in a 350 rather than a torqueless wonder 305.

PandaMonkey has got it. JTR is the premier company that deals with those kind of conversions. I JUST sold my JTR S-10 V8 swap manual online to someone for like $10, its ashame, you could have used it. Id suggest picking one up, it was like 17 chapters step by step on how to do it. Well worth the $30 or whatever it costs.
