2001 z28

I had a 2002 SS and now I am buying a 2001 Z28. I know that it is Dark metallic blue with black leather, the mileage, 10 spoke alloys, Monsoon, A/T, T-tops, ASR, etc., but I don't know if it has a performance package on it like the SS had.
Would it have had to go to SLP Engineering when it was built to have it and can I get the info from the vin?

Re: 2001 z28

Only an "SS" will have the basic SS package. That would be indicated by RPO code "WU8" on the Service Parts Identification label in the glove box. Basic SS package was installed ar St. Therese plant. SLP installed the hood and spoiler. Additional SLP optional content required RPO code "Y2Y".

Thar's from the "Camaro White Book".

Re: 2001 z28

Thanks, Fred.

I know that the SS that I had had a performance package that included bilstein shocks.

Will this 2001 Z28 have the same shocks?

If not, do you know what kind of stock shocks were put on?

And would you stay with the original shocks or go with something else?

Really appreciate your time and information.

Mike

Re: 2001 z28

My 2001 Z28 had some RPO for "Special Ride and Handling Package", trying to look up the code now. No Bilsteins, not sure if they could have been ordered as an option. Obviously optional on some Camaro's, didn't the older 1LE's come with them. I think mine has the orange DeCarbon shocks on it- if you were going to replace them any way, I think I would upgrade to the Bilsteins.

edit: Just found it, the RPO FE2, Suspension system, Ride and Handling Ride & Handling (FE2)
Did NOT include Bilsteins, check your RPO's-

Re: 2001 z28

The stock shocks on the 4th Gen, without "SS", without "1LE" were deCarbons. A lot of people bad mouth them, but they aren't all that bad for a mass produced shock. But given the fact they are now 13 years old, they probably need to be replaced. Do you have any evidence of worn shocks - excessive bouncing, wheel hop, bottoming out, leaks?

Here's a source for good info on 4th Gen shocks:
