1999 Trans Am with 126K....good or bad?
1999 Trans Am with 126K....good or bad?
This is the case: I've found a 1999 Pewter Colored Trans Am, it has a 6-speed and in great conditon, it also has Brand new 18x9.5 Centerline Billet wheels, and brand new edelbrock shocks, and Eibach Sportline Springs in the trunk. This car is the fastest Stock F-body i have ever driven, really runs good...SES light is on, power window driver door doesnt work, turn signals dont work, and now to the biggest problem....it has 126k miles on it...but the car looks like a 50k car., the miles are highmiles driven in Florida....
Is this car gonna give me trouble? What do you think?
and remember a 1999 Trans Am is REAL hard to find here in Sweden, maybe around 15-20 in the country....
Thans guys

Re: 1999 Trans Am with 126K....good or bad?
i know that theres alot of ls1's w high miles that run great, just depends how they were taken care of, i think since their rare in that country and if it is at a good price i say go for it, the SES light might be something easy, etc, and the window motor is an easy fix, and the turn signals, mm..hopefully nothing big, i know a few people w 100k+ on their ls1's, and they run great, go for it bro, get us some pics when you get it
Re: 1999 Trans Am with 126K....good or bad?
A buddy has a 1998 Camaro SS with a 6 speed that has about the same miles on it. He beats on it hard and it stills runs great. It should have many more years of life in it.
The SES light could just be something like the 02 sensors need to be changed. The turn signals are probably an easy fix as well. Heck the window motor was broke on my car as well when I bought it
If it is in nice shape and the price is right, then go for it!

Re: 1999 Trans Am with 126K....good or bad?
I wouldn't say it is bad. What is the price tag on this car? If it costs too much I'd pass because of the mileage being where it is. The higher than average mileage would be a good bargaining point I would think.

...and don't let the 'new' stuff give the seller power. Nobody wants a molested car and face it, if YOU didn't do it, it's molested
Then the same ol' stuff... ask him about maintenance... what type oil he ran and how often he changed it. I'd phrase it as "how often should I change the oil?". This way he won't think you're looking for a particularly high frequency from him.
Look at the oil and the clutch fluid. Take the breather tube off and look inside with a flashlight. Bla bla bla you know the deal.
