1984 Camaro Z28 help

Hey guys! I got my 84 Z28 a few months back and was looking for where exactly I should start, I got the weatherstripping and I have floorpans coming in for it. That's where I'm at currently. It has no engine, transmission, interior ( outside of the dash that is ), and little to no electrical wiring hooked up (what is there I plan on replacing). I know it's quite the project, I'm just looking at where to start!

Re: 1984 Camaro Z28 help

The best place to start is to define what you want the end product to be:

EXAMPLES

- a show quality, fully restored, historically correct “collector” car

- a resto-mod, outstanding appearance, but not necessarily historically correct

- a “performance” car, fit for drag racing, auto-x, or road racing

- an economical build of a nice weekend, fair weather driver

- a reliable daily driver

…… and probably a few ideas I never thought about.

You can’t plan the route until you know where the end-point is.

You need to further define your course by identifying your time limits, financial limits, time availability, and skill set.

Break the activities down into major categories:

- chassis

- drivetrain

- suspension

- wheels and tires

- interior

- paint and exterior finshes

- accessories, like audio system, lighting, power accessories, etc.

This is not an attempt to provide a complete, detailed list of the alternatives. This is just what comes to mind quickly, as a decades long auto enthusiast, who spent his entire professional career as a “project manager”. Hopefully others will have more to offer, based on their experience and knowledge. It would be better if we had more active members here. Seems like not many real contributors left, compared to the past.

Posting a few pictures of the vehicle might help stimulate a more detailed analysis.

In any case, glad you selected a Camaro and plan to keep it alive. Best of luck.

Re: 1984 Camaro Z28 help

I'd love to have it be a resto mod, however currently my main goal is to at least have it on the road where it belongs!

This is the only picture I have of it currently, I'll have to take more of it tomorrow. But I need reattach the hood for sure, they sold me the car with it unbolted. I'm about to order a new latch for it and some other things. I'm not sure who did the airbrushing on this car but it's amazing! It definitely was not the past two owners however. And they're not sure who owned it before them, I checked the VIN when I bought it and it hasn't been reported stolen or anything like that.
