115MPH Speed Limited LT1 M6??

I have a dumb question. Did any of the M6 LT1's have the 115 speed limiter? I think I remember hearing they were all A4's with non speed rated tires from the factory. Im looking to buy one and I dont think it will be appropriate to go that fast on the test drive. How can I tell? RPO codes? Someone enlighten me!

TIA, Jimi

See if it has Z rated tires. If not then its only 115. I doubt it will be limited though. If it is, it's easy to get rid of. WHen are you going 115 anyways?

Seeing as how the car is 10 years old, Im sure thats not going to be a reliable way to tell. Thanks for the input though. In all honesty, not all that often. I want to go faster than that if need be though...

Re: 115MPH Speed Limited LT1 M6??

I thought the only cars with 115 MPH speedos were those with 2.73s. All M6, and A4s with 3.23s had to have the performance transaxle option that would have required the Z rated tires. The only year I would question is possibly 93 which offered two 6 speeds, and had some people reporting weirdness in the gear offerings.

In 2002 (not sure of other years) the factory Z Rated tires could be order as an option (for something like $300 CDN) on an A4 even with the 2.73 rear end

I know - I did it

The literature I read is that the factory speed governor is set to the speed rating of the tires, so if you know the RPO for the z rated tires you could check against the options list on the door

Just get it if its a good deal, fixing the computer is not a problem. Some dealerships will do it if you put on z rated tires and show them... v6ers have gotten dealerships to do it...

and of course there is aftermarket tuning which is WAAAAAAY cheaper for v8 guys and much more common.

The RPO code for Z rated tires (option/2.73 A4) on my car is "QLC".

Besides the RPO code, you could just look at the door LH door sticker. It will list the factory installed tires and suggested air pressure.

I'm with these guys, you could just look in he driver side door jamb, and see what the original tires were....if the sticker is still there

honestly don't see it being a point, if its a good point get it.

run it, if it has a limiter, buy a guage cluster, and pcm, for like $120 total, sell our stuff maybe for $50-60

Or jsut get a programmer, or even contact someone that has access to LT1 edit or other lt1 software programs locally and fix it.

I mean I think I know of 2-3 people with lt1 editing software and I don't have an lt1 or know that many people with an lt1.

Re: 115MPH Speed Limited LT1 M6??

Imagine my disappointment when I drove my brand new 94 Z28 m6 home, and discovered that it shut down at 105mph. The speedo may go to 115, but the car would not. At any rate that was almost 11 years ago, the limiter went away somewhere around that time, and I will roll 210,000 miles on original drivetrain within the month.
