won't run

I have 94 camaro, 3.4 v-6. We bought it from a co-worker of my husbands. They had the car into the dealer shop and on a computer. The dealer told them it needed a new fuel pump. So we put in the new pump and the filter. Before the pump was put in the car would stall for no reason. Well after brand new pump was put in it still does the same thing. It just recently (within last year) had the ECM replaced on it. Car runs for a while in idle, then stalls. It won't stay running.. Any thoughts on what this could be? Anyone have this happen to them?

Have you had the PCM scanned for codes? The dealer should have done that as part of diagnosing the problem, and should be able to give you the specific codes.

Have you checked the fuel pressure? Its possible the hoses that attach to the fuel pump weren't tightened fully and are leaking.

The codes they scanned in the fall said that it needed a fuel pump. That is why we replaced it.

The mechanic that is working on it now..(friend of ours who works on it in his spare time) did check the lines and fuel pressure, right off the bat and it was good.

Honestly we are all a bit stumped. We did what they said we should do. It would not throw a code at all the other night, so he tried running it and running it, till it would. Finally did. This week we plan to get it put on a computer to see what more is going on. Since we had fixed what the original dealer codes said we all were a bit confused. And since I came here to find diagrams on how to cut into the back to replace the fuel pump, i was really just hoping for a few more suggestions. If anyone has any thoughts it will be greatly appreciated and as soon as we get it on the computer I will post what it says. Thank you.

There are no codes that tell you that you need a fuel pump, at least not directly. The PCM does not monitor the fuel pump or the fuel pressure. Has no way to tell if the pump is running, or if the pressure is correct. Only a pressure check will tell you that.

After "running it and running it" it finally "threw a code"..... what code was it?
