Who knows how to use MSD 6BTM?

I am trying to figure out how the 6BTM works. It has settings of 0,1,2&3 so does anyone know how to determine which setting to use. I put up a post about knock that i was getting so im hoping you guys might know. I have Datamaster if this would help to figure it out. Other post below:

The 6BTM provides a variable timing retard in relation to the amount of boost occurring. The amount of retard that occurs is controlled with the dash mounted control **** and ranges from 0° -3° per pound of boost. The chart in Figure 2 shows the relation of boost and retard.

As an example, if you have the control **** set at 2° and run a maximum of 6-pounds of boost, the total retard at max boost is 12°
(2 x 6 = 12°).
DataMaster will not show any changes resulting from use of the BTM. The BTM processing is done after the PCM tells the plugs when to fire.

Its a perfect box for forced induction. I'm very pleased with it. I set mine at 1.5.
