A genuine GM opti is recommended for most people. Try thepartsladi on Ebay for a decent price. Many have been satisfied with the product from there. If you wanted to add a vent system with a minimum amount of fuss, the MSD opti is vented and you don't have to convert any of the the things you normally would have to when swapping to a later model vented opti. More expensive, though.

I've gone thru 4 or 5 opti units (97ss). The gm parts opti always works. I have tried the del-tech opti, but very expensive and failed due to corosion, did not fit the front cover, and, required machine work. I am now running the Summit opti and it is working good. I do mod the rotor with 1/8 alum rivets since the plastic usually melts and destruction is total. HTH. B.

GM opti and locktite the screws inside. Ive had mine on my car for 2 seasons (car ran mid-high 11s all day long) never had issues. Now is boosted and so far so good.
Also was ran on a MSD and mallory this year.
My buddy bought a MSD and said it was a POS, nice design but it blew up fast.

That is just the cap and rotor. If your optical unit has failed, you will need to replace the whole thing, and the MSD one is $550

Who makes a "del-tech" Opti? Never heard of it. Have heard of "Delteq", but thats an add-on multi-coil setup, not an Opti. Do you possibly mean the DynoSpark from Dynotech?

Sorry... Yes Dynotech. Always get confused on name. But, the "cnc" machined alum housing did not fit the front timing cover of a 97 LT1. I did machine additional material from the housing for ot to fully engage into the drive pin and fit the mounting boss flat with no gaps. I always use care and multiple checks when installing opti.
