OEM AC/Delco (vented conversion), but I only need the optical sensor.

Genuine GM/AC Delco.
Disassembled once, found a rotor screw off, secured and loctited both screws.

Always used AC Delco. Would consider other option if there were enough reviews or any showing an improvement over stock dollar for dollar.

GM OEM Opti (Pin drive) with modification. Changed to (2) alum 1/8" rivets in the copper rotor contact. Altered the vent circuit for more air flow. I had 2 rotor failures with the addition of an MSD6A and 8202 coil. Plastic rivets would not hold the copper contact. B.

After 4 failed OEM opti's, I decided to give the MSD billet opti a try.... It works.

Some speculate aftermarket ignition enhancers, such as coils and ignition control moduls (such as MSD 6AL) can contribute to premature opti failures. This might be what caused mine to fail. Supposedly the MSD billet opti is built to compensate for these things. I can say this for sure, it's sure as hell built way better than the OEM POS.

I went with the MSD after replacing three AC Delco optis on my 93 over the last 11 years. It's only been on for a year and a half though, so the jury is still out on it. It sure ain't cheap.

After having an MSD 6A and Blaster coil on my car for almost 10 years, I would have to say this is definitely not true. My OEM POS works very well.

IMHO, the MSD opti seems an expensive piece for the failure rate it seems to have.

I agree, considering the number of complaints and QC issues the MSD has had so far, I still think it is too soon to brand it as the superior design of the bunch.
