Well i guess that would be the last thing to do? Would the ignition module, next to the coil, have anything to do with this type of problem?

I do not believe there is any high voltage within the ignition module that could cause the arching that you have described.

The opti can still work and give problems just like any other distributor.

Well if i'm gonna be in there and with the problem i have it seems to make sense to change the whole thing if the cap rotor aren't noticably the problem.

you will also need a t9 torx bit to get the rotor off if you decide to replace just the cap and rotor.

I'm pretty mechanically inclined but is there anything tricky about changing an opti? I mean if the car is running and the opti is intact can i mess it up? I'll be checking shoebox's website to see if there is a step by step but figured i'd ask since i was on here.

Also the optical sensor, what is the correct term for that? Is that the ignition module that sme come with and some don't?
I know the MSD one comes with everything, anyone have anything good or bad to say about the msd's?

Ok got it off and inspected. The rotor and cap looked normal. When i looked at the back of the opti i noticed some significant cracks in the metal casing and the edge of the casing around the cracks looks discolored. If i could figure out how to post pics or someone could help me i would love to share them to see what you guys think. I haven't got the correct size tiny socket to get the case apart but i will tomorrow. i want to see if the cracks are all the way through. (pretty sure it's my prob)

BTW good call on the E4 socket colbear
Thought i had the t9 but alas i only had a t10 rclearyiii

Who sells a dependable complete setup at a reasonble price with fast shipping? (like by friday)

Ok got a new opti put on and bought a new ICM also. I'm happy to report that after replacing the coil, wires, ICM, opti harness, and opti no more clicking/cracking sound. I also replaced the O2 sensors. She fired right up ran well on the road but still has a low end hesiation i think it might be time for some new injectors. Mine only have 173k on them What do the resident experts think? When i step on it she goes then you can feel the power increase after a second or so like something is catching up. Wierd but drivable right now until i hear from you guys on what you think.

I had a low end hesitation on a car once like it was trying to catch up to itself. Mine ended up being a cracked spark plug porcelain was very hard to spot.
