Stuck ignition lock cylinder

Today I started the car and it started normally. But when I released the key it stopped about halfway between the run and start positions.

I was able to get the car home, but I had to shut off the vehicle by pulling the ignition fuse and then disconnecting the battery. I cannot get the ignition to turn back from where it's at.

I can turn it forward and start the car, if I let go it goes back far enough the starter kicks off but all the accessories are still shut off. No amount of wiggling will turn the key farther than this.

I know how to change the lock cylinder but that's parts and money I'd prefer to avoid. I'm hoping there's an off chance one of you knows some sneaky way to fix this...

Re: Stuck ignition lock cylinder

Could be a problem with the switch, connected to the key cylinder with a rod. Shoebox has a writeup on ignition switch problems.

Re: Stuck ignition lock cylinder

If you release the rod from the ignition switch and the key turns freely, then your switch is jammed up (likely fried), which is the more common thing.
