Thumbs down Starts and quits randomly.

For the past week I can start my car but randomly after driving for as little from ten minutes to a half hour it will just die on me. I get a code that says DI low res circuit on a diagnostic. I can let it sitt and idle for as long as i want it seems but when im driving it just shuts off on me, today it was quite but another time it backfired like crazy. i was thinking replace the distributor so thats where im headed. any solutions?

Sound like you have P1371. That means the PCM can not find the low resolution pulse pattern from the optical sensor in the Optispark distributor. When the PCM loses the low res pulse, it shuts down the fuel system. Clear the PCM after each event, and see if every time it stalls, you get a new P1371 code.

That may be caused by corrosion or pin damage to the Opti harness connectors. Check both the connector that pushes onto the Opti, and the gray intermediate connector on the bracket on the passenger side of the intake manifold. If the code correlates directly to the stalling, and its not a problem with the wiring harness, its the Opti.

I cleaned out the connectors and replaced the optispark but now it barley starts. i got it to start one time today but thats it, possible that i mixed up the spark plugs? maybe the opti is on wrong?

What Opti did you buy? Did you loctite the rotor screws before you installed it? Cheap Opti's are not good Opti's. All of them can lose the rotor if you don't loctite the screws.

If you got it to start at least once, the Opti is indexed correctly to the cam.

they all look the same thats why they are called knockoffs.take a good look at all coil, icm wires for corrosion or breakage.
