I dont know if I went the long route of what, but its a job I will NEVER do again. I tried to drop the rear end to pull the tank, disconnected all the bolts (hand tools only), had to drop exhaust and heat shields, heat shields come out before exhaust. Muffler to tail pipe clamped together, couldn't separate, had to cut the clamp off and cut some material off the muffler. NIGHTMARE, drive train support beam bolts frozen. All in all took about 14 REAL labor hours to do. I can NOT believe it was that hard. No I just have to test, I dont know what to do if there is a leak. I have never run into such a pain on a seemingly simply project. Never again I vow! To top it all off, the tank wouldnt align right on the re-install, had two helper r and r the tank about 6 times trying to get fuel filler aligned right. OMG!

 

Dropping the tank isn't a easy job by yourself if you have never done it.

 

That's why people are inclined to cut an access hole in the floor pan above the tank. You can have the pump/sender unit out in an hour or two (maybe less, depending on skill).
