Racetronix Fuel Pump:Necessary to Mod the Bucket

Why is it necessary to modifie the bucket to fit the Racetronix fuel pump? Mine seem to fit snug and fine. What is the problem with it? Does it prevent the top from fitting right? I already installed mine and it did not SEEM to fit bad so I did not mod it.

From what I remember the little plastic piece inside of the bucket may need to be 'finagled' sometimes to get the pump to set properly, not real sure though.

I looks as though the ribs are recessessed so that they prevent the suction side of the pump from sitting on the check valve. If that is the case then I think mine went in fine without modification. Just wanting some opinions though.

Mine the actual pump hit on the ribs inside the bucket. I had to dremel them out so that it would sit down in all the way. And even then, it was a real mother ****er to get it on right and glued and all that. Buckets suck.

The stock fuel pump inlet is offset whereas most aftermarket inlets are centered. Are you absolutely positive it is seated correctly? I know mine felt good when I tried to push the inlet into the bucket when seating the pump, but decided to do more clearencing of the ribs anyway and found out there was more leeway for the inlet to seat.

Mine's a 97. Your the second 97 Z28 owner that has said they had no problem. Maybe the 97s had no problems. Sounds stupid BUT the instructions did say some worked some didn't.

The instructions that were sent were VERY vague and poorly written IMHO. I write maintenance procedures at a Data Center and if I turned something like that in, I would be fired.

I would also like to add my observation. It seems that if you remove the ribs from the bottom of the bucket, the inlet would set directly on the check valve, preventing it from opening. It seems as if the ribs on mine were recessed enough to allow the pump to set in the bucket, but prevented it from setting on the check valve.

Nice attitude. We have specific forums, for specific topics, and we request that you post the topics on the correct forums. Sorry you feel you are above the rules.....

PS... if you have a disagreement with the actions of a moderator, you are required to address it with a PM or an e-mail..... not by posting a childish outburst in a thread.

Strike two.... want to try for three?
