Performance plugs?

Looking at changing plugs in my car for a little more performance, not doing any big modifications for awhile. For now underdrive pulleys, throttle body, performance chip, MAF. For just a little gain. In about 6 months I'll be doing longtube headers and dynomax race bullet true duals. Then on to gears and rear end, anyways I'm side tracking myself.

Never really messed with them other than swapping for replacements. These pulsars say they provide 1,000,000 wat spark over the average 50watt. Says more efficient combustion and up to 12% horsepower and torque gain. Of course those are only projections.

Anybody used these? If so what are your experiences? One review said just about the same as Bosch, haven't got around to looking these up yet

Re: Performance plugs?

Gimmick plugs are.......a gimmick. And BTW, Bosch plugs have a poor reputation in the LT1 community (especially anything with multiple electrodes).

Re: Performance plugs?

You have to add a "Signature" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, trans and any major mods. That's the only way anyone can answer your questions.

Since you say you have a "performance chip", we can guess you have a 1993 or earlier, since that was the last year for a removable chip. Or maybe you have a tuning "module", like the JET or Hypertech, and are calling it a "chip".

Re: Performance plugs?

Pulsar plugs are like a capacitor inside and they make the spark look a lot different - kind of big & fluffy - , but inside the engine, that doesn't really do anything for performance, and those things are really expensive, too. They kind act similar to Nology wires with their grounded shields - those had a capacitive effect on the wires and made a big looking spark at the spark plug, and so they sold all kinds of them to ricers who thought they would get a bunch of power out of them when really it was probably costing them about 3 kV of open circuit voltage potential. Pulsar also makes some plug caps which fit over spark plugs (they screw onto the terminals of the type of plugs which have the threaded terminals on top) that do the same thing as well. I also thought the plugs didn't look very robust because of the dielectric material making the insulator thinner. I havent looked at them in a while, so I don't know what they've done in the last few years.
