Opti Problem

My car is running on 7 cylinders and I determined the opti is not firing #6 cylinder. That terminal on the opti is dead.

My question is what causes one terminal to go bad on the opti?

Is it the electronics inside it or the cap and rotor?

Thanks for the help.

If only one cylinder is misfiring, its related specifically to the cap - the metal button the rotor passes may be burned, the wire ribbon inside the cap between the button and the wire tower may be burned or cross-firing to another wire, or the terminal in the wire tower could be badly corroded. Also possible there is carbon tarcking from the #6 button on the cap.

That's the answer i'm looking for and thanks for the help.

I'll tear it apart tonight and see what I come up with and post the results.

Took the cap off and found the rotor barely hanging on.

One of the bolts holding the rotor was completely off and the other was almost out.

I'm really shocked that it didn't break up into a bunch of pieces.

It all looked great except the rotor mouning tab was broke so I'm going to go ahead and put another rotor in it and put it back together with some loctite.
