Need help deciding which injectors..
Need help deciding which injectors..
Can anyone offer opinion on which size injectors will work for me? I am going to be using an STS turbo kit on a basically stock LT1. Looking at some of the calculations on this site, it looks like I should be ok with something in the area of 36# injectors. My question really is with the idea of the future in mind. I plan on building a motor in the mean time and also what to buy something that will work for that as well. Can I go with a 60# injector with my current setup for the time being so I don't have to buy them again in a year or two? Can they be tuned down to not flood the motor with fuel? I don't have any specs in mind for the new motor other then I will be looking for 6-700rwhp. So since I need injectors, I'd rather buy them once if that is possible. Also, it seems everyone likes the Ford injectors, is there any place you recommend getting them from for the best price?
Thanks for any help,
Craig

The 36's will be OK for about 515 flywheel HP. You could opt for 42's, and you are good for 600 HP (NA). The stock PCM will handle the 42's at idle with no problems. Over 42 #/HR, you need to find a high impedance injector, that might be too slow for decent idle, or add an outboard adapter to allow you to run low impedance injectors.
What you will need to reach 600-700rwHP depends to a large extent on how you plan to make that quantum leap. 700rwHP through your M6 will require about 800 at the flywheel. What sort of power adder are you thinking about? With wet nitrous, your injector size would not need to increase. With a blower, and the resulting much higher BSFC, you might be looking at 65-70 #/HR at stock fuel pressure, or 56-62 #/HR running at 58psi, rather than 43.5psi.
Buying a set of 42's make the most sense. If you decide on a blower or turbo later on, sell the 42's and get the size you need. The small incremental cost for trading up the injectors will fade into insignifigance in the face of the cost of the total package required to produce that level of HP and put it effectively to the pavement.
