Megasquirt II

Anybody here using the Megasquirt setup to run fuel and ignition?

If you are, do you have any info on how to set it up?

I searched but not much came back.

Thanks,
Doug

I have seen where some people run the Ford EDIS 8 setup with megasquirt on an LT1. The biggest hurdle seems like mounting the timing wheel and the sensor. It is also very cheap to purchase used. Whenever I get the spare funds to buy a laptop I am gonna buy a used EDIS setup and a megasquirt, cant wait for all that wiring I really dont need it on an almost stock motor but I wanna get good at tuning it and dont wanna have to rely on mail order tunes or expensive dyno tunes for the rest of my life.

I would be glad to answer any specific questions, but if you are just getting started I suggest you read about all motors, not just the lt1.

When it boils down to it, all engines do the same thing; they burn air and fuel. You have to figure out how to get those two things into it. Basically your lt1 becomes a small block, or hell even a ford motor - just swap a few plug wires.

I was wondering how hard it actually is to do it, and if it actually works as well(or better than the stock setup).

Did you build the megasquirt cpu or did you buy the thing pre-fab? I'm kinda into it since it involves fabrication and being able to tune the thing.
(and if I can do it, I might run it on my 65 VW bug for kicks)

How stable is the code that runs on the megasquirt pcm?

I read something about being able to get the signal from the crank position sensor. How tough is that to do?

Thanks in advance-

I am still in my early stages of tuning.. probably only 30-40 miles really and already I would say its better than stock. I have it as driveable as my previous cam car and believe that I can improve on that even more. Plus I get the benefit of being able to tune under boost. Oh and I love my coilpack setup. No more opti.

Did it myself and would do more of them. Building the computer really does take @ 10 hours the first time around. Its very rewarding to start with a pile of components and in the end have a complete running system that does what you want it to

Very. I had a wiring issue early on where the computer was dropping voltage, but since then no issues at all.

Easy to do and a pretty good way to run it. You will still need some sort of distributor if you do this though. The computer can tell how fast the motor is turning, so it can give fuel and timing - but it has to be able to get that timing to the right spark plug. Lots of options here. Old school dizzy - router board with ls1 coil packs - just depends on how creative you are. I went with the edis8 because it seems to be the most popular option - easy to setup and low cost. My edis and MS was still half the price of the delteq or cppc setups.

How did you mount the wheel on your motor? Machine some bolt holes on the Harmonic Balancer? Is the setup stable when driving in the rain/standing water? Do you have any pictures of the wheel installed?
I now have a MS and would like to get things going for the new Turbo coming up.
Thanks!

Sorry I dont check this section often. I will try to get some pics.

I am using the 8.25" 36-1 wheel from diyautotune and yes it is just bolted straight to my crank pulley.
