LS1 in 96 camaro, how to use fuel lines and bypass return?
hey so how exactly would i bypass the return line for using the ls1 in my lt1 car, i know the LS1 has 1 fuel line, while the LT1 uses 1 vacuum and 1 fuel and 1 return line. How would I do this so that I can make the LS1 get fuel? I have a walbro pump so the actuall fuel deliver is good because I know the lt1 fuel pump cant hold an LS1 engine. Any pics or help would be very appreciated.
There are aftermarket LSx fuel rails that are designed to support a recirculated fuel system, like the one in the 93-97 F-Bodys. So one option would be to swap rails. There was also a recirculated rail system on the 97 Corvette LS1, I believe. If you did that, you would need a stand-alone adjustable fuel pressure regulator capable of operating at 58psi.
Next possibility would be to simply install a complete LSx fuel pump/bucket/sensor/harness/pressure control in your LT1 tank. Not sure if it fits. Run a single line from the tank to the rails.
Another option, if you want to keep the "dead end" design, you need to install a bypass style fuel pressure regulator. That regulator could be located at the tank or in the engine compartment. Putting the regulator in the engine compartment would provide the most accurate pressure control, since the length of the line from the regulator to the rails is minimized. Also allows utilizing the stock fuel supply and return lines. The feed line from the pump goes into one side of the regulator, the center connection on the regulator supplies the fuel rails, and the stock return line connects to the other side of the regulator. The regulator uses a bypass to the return line, to control the fuel pressure in the line to the rails.
Don't worry about the vacuum line. It has nothing to do with the fuel tank. It runs from the EVAP canister in the drivers rear fender to the EVAP purge solenoid on the engine. You would just reconnect that line to the EVAP purge solenoid on the LS1 engine.
