key switch problem on a 95 z

got a problem...when i turn the key to "run" my guages are supposed to come on, fuel pump ect ect...but nothing happens.
but when i turn the key forward to engage the starter everything comes on and the starter cranks and engine runs
however, as soon as i let off on the switch everything shuts off. the car is in the "run" position halfway to "crank". could this be a key switch rod malfunction? my high beams dont click on either
thanks

Read Shoebox's guide, and see if this helps you out:

yes ive already searched through it, im pretty sure the actual switch is fine. im thinking i might have to adjust the rod somehow? it starts everytime and runs fine as long as im keeping the switch half turned

I answered your post on another forum. The dimmer and ignition switch use the same hold down fasteners. You "adjust" by moving the switch up or down with it's slotted mounting holes.

Keep at it or take it off and scope it out. Just make sure you don't move the switch posittion or the key when it is off. Ignition switches wear out too, so you might consider that to be your problem.
